Egypt got to the knockout stage of the 2025 AFCON by winning Group B, recording victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, before drawing against Angola with a completely changed-up team.
The Pharaohs then survived a massive scare in the Round of 16 against Benin, where they were held 1-1 in regulation time, but found two goals in the dying moments of extra time to progress 3-1.

Therefore, this matchup is about revenge for the Ivory Coast, and so far, they have been in great shape in the lead-up. They topped the group of death with wins over Mozambique and Gabon, and played to a draw against Cameroon.
The Elephants then produced arguably their best performance of the competition in the Round of 16, where they dominated Burkina Faso and secured their spot in the last eight with a 3-0 victory.
