England have been relegated from League A of the UEFA Nations League. As they finish their matches in this group at home to Germany, they can only target a better game than what they managed in Italy. The Three Lions are bottom of this group with two points and Germany, who have also been dismal in this competition are third with six points. Both are out of contention for the semis, and with England’s fate sealed, this is a dead rubber affair. England are coming from a 1-0 loss to Italy and have now failed to win any of their last five matches, and failed to score in four of them. Their only goal in this run came through a penalty, late in their 1-1 draw with Germany. They have one clean sheet in five matches.
Germany’s hopes of getting to the semi finals were finished at home as they hosted Hungary, losing 1-0. That was the first time they failed to score in the last five matches but they don’t have a very good run in the Nations League. Their only win in this season’s competition was against Italy, which was only their third win in the competition in 15 matches. They have no clean sheet in their last six matches, and five of them have produced under 2.5 goals. The Germans haven’t lost away from home in their last seven matches though. Their last defeat away from home was against England, a 2-0 loss at Wembley in June 2021. They have four wins in their last seven away matches.
