Empoli will host Salernitana in the Serie A on Monday as the two sides seek to rise away from threat of relegation. The two teams come to this match tied on 35 points with 14th placed Salernitana edging 15th placed Empoli on goal difference. Empoli secured their eighth win of the season last time out by beating Bologna 3-1 at home and will expect to ride that momentum against Salernitana and win back-to-back matches for the first time since January. The win over Bologna ended a four-match run without a win with three of those games ending in defeat. With five matches left to play, Paolo Zanetti’s men are still in the relegation picture despite being eight points clear and know that a win here will go a long way in confirming another season in the topflight if the teams below them fail to match their result.

Salernitana will also target a win for the same reasons as Empoli, to help continue their rise up the standings. Paulo Sousa’s men have also found it difficult to win matches just like Empoli but have fared much better as they have made themselves difficult to beat, a case in point being their most recent game, in which they led three times in a 3-3 draw with Fiorentina. The Granata are on a 10-match unbeaten run but eight of those matches have seen them settle for a share of the spoils. Five of those draws have come on the road and with the last two matches between Salernitana and Empoli ending even, chances are that this latest meeting could again fail to produce a winner.
