Eintracht Frankfurt have stumbled a bit in their chase for a Champions League slot and as they host Union Berlin, the target will be gaining three points for that push. The hosts are placed fourth in the Bundesliga standings with 44 points and take on seventh placed Union Berlin who have so far managed 38 points. Frankfurt are eyeing a top four finish but going by their recent performances, that isn’t going so well. They have no win in their last three matches and are now just two points above fifth placed Borussia Dortmund. After losing to Werder Bremen, they twice came from behind to draw the last two matches, and now will be hoping they can go one better, and win. They have the quality, as seen in their 2-1 win over Bayern Munich on 20th February, but they have to improve on defence as they now have four games without a clean sheet. The loss to Werder Bremen, which came as a surprise, is Frankfurt’s only defeat in their last 10 matches and they’ve won six in that run. Frankfurt have one clean sheet in their last 10 matches but have scored two or more goals in seven of the 10. In their 12 home matches in the league this season, the team hasn’t tasted defeat; they’ve won six and drawn six.

Union Berlin haven’t had a very bad season either and a win here will enhance their chances of playing in Europe next season. As things stand, they are just two points below the Europa League slot. The visitors head to this game unbeaten in the last five matches, but there are three draws in there, though it feels okay having three clean sheets in the five matches. Union Berlin have failed to score in two of the last five matches and among the top seven sides on the Bundesliga standings, they have the fewest goals – 38. They however pride in being the third best side defensively, after conceding 27 goals. As a result of good defending and scoring few goals, eight of Union Berlin’s last 10 matches have produced under 2.5 goals. They’ve scored twice in just one of the last 10 matches and also conceded twice in one of the last 10 matches. It is away from home that Union Berlin should strive to improve, having managed just one win in the last five league matches. They’ve lost three of the five, and failed to score in three.
