An all-Pacific Division match-up as the 29-17-10 Los Angeles Kings head to Edmonton to play the 33-20-2 Oilers. Edmonton has hit a bit of a sticky patch, losing three in a row at home and defensively they have been weak, conceding an average of just over four goals per game in their last 10. At the other end of the ice, the goals are still flying in but not enough to cover the shortfall at the back. The Kings have been solid on the blue line this year so this is going to be a test for them to try and land enough blows on one of the best defensive cores in the league. They have the offensive talent to run up the scoreboard on most teams but their recent excellent home record has just slipped a touch.
Edmonton took off when the team made a head coach change and it looks as if a new coach for the Kings is having a similar effect. The Oilers were the first team that the Kings took on with their new coach, shutting out Edmonton, only the second team to do that all season. Given that the Kings have been better on the road this season, it has been impressive that they have started to get some results at Crypto.com Arena. They have been averaging 2.5 goals against since Jim Hillier took over but seven of the 20 goals they have shipped were in one game against the Buffalo Sabres. 13 against in the other seven has them putting themselves back in the top few teams from a defensive standpoint and they hit Edmonton at what could be a good time.
