Congo DR, one of the most successful teams in the African Nations Championship, will launch their campaign for a third victory when they take on Uganda in a Group B game at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba, Algeria. With three wins in their last four matches, Congo DR will be taking into this game the favorites’ tag, and they have been scoring a lot too. In the last four matches alone, they’ve failed to score in one, but still hit 10 goals, with their only loss, in which they also failed to score, coming against Burkina Faso – a 1-0 defeat. The goal conceded in that game was one of the two they’ve let in in the last four matches and they will feel they can better their run of one win in four matches against Uganda. Coached by a former Uganda Cranes tactician Sebastien Desabre, Congo DR will hope to benefit from the Frenchman’s vast knowledge of their opponents.

Uganda have veteran Milutin Sredojevic at the helm once again and he is looking to inspire the team in his second stint. The Eastern representatives have three wins in four meetings with Congo DR and they will hope to use this as a good launching pad for this competition. Heading into this game however, Uganda have no win in the last three matches, the most recent a 2-2 draw with Sudan in a friendly. That result was a semblance of improvement as they scored for the first time in three matches. Uganda have managed two wins in their last nine matches, though in the last four, they’ve scored two or more in two games. This will be Uganda’s sixth appearance at this competition and in all their previous ones, they could only finish at the group stages. A better performance will be desirable coming into this one.
