Sunday brings us a Nordic matchup in the IIHF World Championship, with Denmark (9th seed) taking on Sweden (5th seed) at the BCF-Arena. Tre Kronor have beaten the Danish Lions in each of their last six encounters, and we’re going for the same outcome here as our match prediction.
After their historic third-placed finish in this competition last year, Denmark kicked off this World Championship disappointingly, losing their opening match 4-1 to the Czech Republic.
Mikkel Aagaard scored the only goal of the match for the Danish Lions, while Nick Olsen recorded the most shots on goal (6). Mats Sogaard had a busy afternoon in goal, producing 25 saves from 28 shots on goal
Denmark have now lost six of their last 10 matches in all competitions and their last six against this opponent.
Meanwhile, Sweden put up a solid fight in their opening match against Canada, coming back from 2-0 down to level the clash, but the Canadians pulled away in the third period to win 5-3.
Jacob Larsson, Lucas Raymond and Matthias Ekhold scored a goal apiece in that match, while Jack Berglund had two assists. Magnus Hellberg managed 21 saves from 26 shots on goal.
Tre Kronor have won six of their last 10 matches in all competitions and beat this opponent to the bronze medal in this competition last year.

Our Denmark vs Sweden Prediction
Denmark made history in the 2025 edition of the IIHF World Championship, but they proved no match for the Czech Republic in this year's opener, which does not bode well for their chances here against the higher-seeded Swedes.
Tre Kronor put up a stern challenge against one of the tournament favourites, Canada, in their opening match, and they will be determined to put that disappointment behind them. Sweden have dominated this Nordic battle in recent years, and we fancy them to come out on top in this one. Our Denmark vs Sweden prediction is Sweden -2.5.
