Defending champion Luciano Darderi begins the defence of his Swedish Open title. Altmaier leads Darderi 2-1 in previous meetings but they are 1-1 on clay with the German's win being six years ago.
Daniel Altmaier was 60th in the latest ranking list, 42 places below Darderi.
He has a 12-11 record on clay this year with two ATP Tour clay court quarter-finals. He also reached the final of the Naples Challenger Tour event. Altmaier does blow hot and cold and has only made it past round two in three ATP Tour events in 2026.
