Czech Republic and Albania will face off in the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers this Friday. This is a crucial battle in the group between the sides that are currently in first and second place, respectively, after three matches. The hosts lead the way with seven points after three matches and are the only unbeaten team in Group E. They beat Poland 3-1 in their opening match and the Faroe Islands 3-0 back in June. The hosts only points dropped in this competition so far came against Moldova, where they drew 0-0. Lokomotiva had a very poor Nations League campaign, finishing bottom of Group A2 with just four points in their six games. However, with their results in the earlier rounds of this competition and a 4-1 friendly win over Montenegro, the Czechs are unbeaten in their last four matches. 

Meanwhile, Albania entered these qualifiers as the biggest outsider to qualify from this group, ranked 49th of 55 nations according to UEFA. However, they have defied the odds up to this stage and are currently just one point behind their opponents in the group standings. They have also moved two places up in the rankings leapfrogging Belarus and Estonia. The visitors were beaten 1-0 by Poland in their opening fixture but bounced back perfectly to beat Moldova and the Faroe Islands in their last two matches. They have now won three of their four matches in all competitions. However, looking further back, their record is less impressive. The Red and Blacks ended bottom of their group in the Nations League and hadn’t won any of their previous six competitive matches. Against the only top-20-ranked team in the group, the visitors are the clear outsiders in this match.
