Manchester City go to the weekend in second place, eight points behind league leaders Liverpool after just eight matches. As they play away to Crystal Palace, they will be looking to get back to winning ways after a shock 2-0 defeat at home, to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manchester City, with 16 points, are just two points better of Crystal Palace on the league standings. The loss to Wolves in the last match exposed City’s defensive weaknesses, and Palace will be hoping to exploit this, on the back of a good run they have had. Palace have managed seven points from the last three matches, recovering from their 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur earlier. While City go to this game on a low, we know they have the capacity to recover well. Earlier in the season they also lost to Norwich but in their next league match, they beat Watford 8-0. Palace should thus be keen to avoid a similar backlash. Both sides have lost twice in the season already. For Palace, this will be the biggest game this season, though they earlier beat Manchester United. They are unbeaten in their four home league matches this season, winning two and drawing two. They have also kept three clean sheets in the four home matches and scored in each of the last three. The last time Palace were on a longer unbeaten run at home was in October – December 2017, where they went on a six – game run. Last season they are among the few sides that managed to beat Manchester City and they will be seeking the same treat here.

Manchester City will, however, not be easy opponents for Palace, even with the hosts’ home form. They have won three of their opening four away league matches and have scored three or more goals in the three matches. In each of the four away league matches, City have not scored less than two goals. The 3-2 loss to Norwich was City’s only league loss away from home in 11 matches. They have eight wins in 10 matches against Crystal Palace, and have lost only one in the run. Eight of their last 10 meetings have also produced over 2.5 goals. The loss to Wolves in the last match, was the first time in 30 matches that the Premier League champions have failed to score.
