On the back of a momentous win over Arsenal, Brentford walk straight into another big game against fellow London rivals, Crystal Palace in Week 2 of the Premier League. These two sides had contrasting fortunes in Week 1, Brentford beating Arsenal 2-0 and Palace taking a 3-0 thrashing at Chelsea. Hosts Palace will go to this game hoping their experience in the top flight and quality of players works for them against a newly promoted side. However, they are still a work in progress and new manager Patrick Vieira has called for patience. How far that will go remains to be seen but at the least they are expected to do better than in the opening game, where they had just one shot on target. Palace finished 14th last season but had a good preseason, going unbeaten in five friendly matches, with four wins. To be able to do better this season, they must improve, first defensively and also create and execute enough in attack. They have four wins in their last six matches but only two clean sheets in 10. They go to this game on seven losses in the last 10 league matches.

Brentford will still be riding high after their win over Arsenal but should remember success in the Premier League is largely based on how fast a team moves on. While Arsenal fielded a weakened team, Brentford still showed they can cut it against the established sides and the three points won were thoroughly deserved. Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard scored the goals and will be in inspired form going to this game. Defender Kristoffer Ajer is a major doubt for this game but Brentford should have enough cover should he be ruled out after sustaining an injury in the Week 1 win. Brentford had a generally good preseason and heading to this game they’ve lost just once in the last nine matches, and won seven. Their clean sheet against Arsenal was the fourth in their last seven matches and they are unbeaten in four away matches, drawing one and winning three.
