Bruges ran out comfortable winners of the Belgian Jupiler League last season finishing 12 points clear in the main season and then winning the Champions group by three points from their opponents in this game, Standard Liege. While Bruges won the title, Standard Liege gained some compensation by winning the Belgian Cup beating Genk after extra time. The two sides now meet in the Super Cup but also met at the semi-final stage of the Belgian Cup last year with Liege winning 6-4 on aggregate, mainly thanks to a convincing 4-1 home win in the first leg. Bruges have played four friendlies in the lead up to this game and are unbeaten so far.  They have home advantage in this Super Cup and that's clearly going to give them an advantage.  They had gone 48 home league games without defeat before suffering two home losses right at the end of last season. When the sides last met at Bruges it ended in a 4-4 draw so fans will be hoping for a repeat of that kind of game this weekend.  Earlier in the season, Bruges beat Liege 4-0 at home.

Liege had a poor run of form last season and in the main league won just four games and lost seven, including that heavy loss at Bruges. Pre-season results have been mixed with a 2-1 loss at home to Nancy and a 4-1 loss at Celtic.  This is their 8th appearance in the Super Cup with no wins since 2009 and in 2016 they lost 2-1 to Bruges. With their form a bit erratic and away record inconsistent, go for Bruges to get the win in this game.
