China are on course to defend their Olympic title after claiming a spot in the Men’s Team semi-final with a dominant display to overcome South Korea 3-0 in the quarter-final on Wednesday.
Doubles duo Ma Long and Wang Chuqin gave the team a solid foundation, dispatching Cho Daeseong and Jang Woojin 3-0 before the formidable Fan Zhendong increased their advantage with a 3-1 win over Lim Jonghoon.
Wang Chuqin completed the rout with a 3-1 win over Jang Woojin. The last time the Chinese Men’s Team lost an official match was at the 2009 Asian Championships in India.
Meanwhile, Team France booked their spot against the table tennis giants by beating Brazil 3-0 in the quarter-final. Simon Gauzy and Alexis Lebrun took down Guilherme Teodoro and Vitor Ishiy in straight sets in the doubles.
Singles bronze medalist Felix Lebrun followed up with a 3-1 win over Hugo Calderano and Alexis Lebrun wrapped up the match with a 3-1 win over Vitor Ishiy.
