Chikhura Sachkhere finished fourth in the Georgian league to qualify for the Europa League. This is the fourth season in a row that they have qualified for this competition. Only once have they made it past the second qualifying round. That was in 2014-15 when eventually losing to Neftchi Baku. They beat Fola Esch in this season's first qualifying round. The away first leg wasn't easy as they went a goal down to their opponents. It took an 86th minute penalty to secure a 2-1 win. The second leg also finished 2-1 with the home side taking a 2-0 lead before conceding a late goal. Chikhura aren't having the best of league seasons and are down in sixth place. They are 12 points behind the final Europa League qualifying position and only five points above the relegation places. Home form in the Europa League isn't that great. The win over Fola Esch ended a run of six without a win on home soil. Overall they have played 10 home Europa League games, winning just two of them.

Aberdeen have a long European history but this is the first time they have played a game against a Georgian side. You have to go back to 2008 for their last long run in Europe when reaching the third round of the UEFA Cup. Since that became the Europa League, the Scottish side have never made it to the group stages. Last season saw them lose in the second qualifying round to English Premier League side Burnley. That ended a run of four straight seasons in which they had made it to the third qualifying round of this competition. This season they beat RoPS in the first qualifying round. They won the home first leg 2-1 conceding a late goal. The second leg was a bit more difficult as they went 1-0 down after just two minutes. They equalized in the 26th minute and won the game 2-1 with a goal in the 94th minute. Aberdeen have won three and lost three of their last six away games in this competition. They look in better form than their opponents and can get a narrow win here.
