Chievo are battling to get in the promotion play-offs. They begin this final game of the main season in sixth place and host struggling Pescara who are down in 16th. It's going to be a tense final day with just two points separating Chievo in sixth and tenth placed Empoli. The sides placed third to eighth will go into the play-offs so a win for Chievo will clinch their place and keep hopes alive of a return to Serie A. Their play-off position would already be confirmed if they hadn't drawn 14 league games. They boosted their play-off chances with a surprise 1-0 win at league champions Benevento. That was the second win in a row for Chievo following a run of two points from the previous four games. Home form had been inconsistent with three wins and three losses. As the need for points increases though, their home form has improved. Two of the last three have been won with seven goals scored, making it nine for the season.

Pescara are in danger of ending up in what they call the ‘Play Out’ positions. That means surviving automatic relegation but having to go up against Serie C sides to stay in the division. They are only behind 15th on head-to-head results and need at least a draw to give them some hope. Their most recent game saw Pescara improve their survival hopes with a 1-0 home win over bottom-of-the-table Livorno. That ended a run of seven league games without a win, though four had ended in draws. Only one point has been earned from the last eight on the road, the last win coming in January. Just three goals have been scored in those eight matches. They have won five away league fixtures but 12 have ended in defeat. Only three sides have conceded more away league goals than Pescara.
