Both of these clubs still have a chance of winning the Premier League. That's despite Chelsea finishing 2020 in sixth place and Manchester City down in eighth. It wasn't a great end to the year for Chelsea as they only won one of their last five league fixtures. That took them out of the top four but they are only three points behind Everton, though from a game more. Seven points separate league leaders Liverpool from Chelsea and the Blues will be keen to close that gap with a win over Manchester City. Of those final five league games of 2020, three were played away from home. and all of them lost. After this match, Chelsea's next two league fixtures are at Fulham and Leicester City. It's a crucial period for Frank Lampard's team as the new year starts. Home form has been good though this season with four wins out of eight and only Liverpool beating them. That's the second best home record in the Premier League. Four of the last six home league games has seen both teams score.

Manchester City aren't used to starting a new calendar year in eighth place. However, while they are seven points behind Liverpool, they do happen to have two games in hand. A title challenge is most definitely on, especially when their injured players return to full fitness. The goals aren't flowing as they did last season. After 14 games of the 2019/20 season, their goal difference was +23, this time around they've only scored 21 goals. They are unbeaten in their last six league games though and after this fixture, host Brighton and Crystal Palace. A good start to 2021 will have them breathing right down the necks of Liverpool. Away form has seen only two wins in the last six league matches but only one defeat at Tottenham. They have scored in five of their seven away matches but only at Sheffield United and Manchester United have they kept clean sheets. A bet on both teams to score is the suggested wager for this game.
