Top clashes are on the cards this weekend and the biggest of them all is definitely league leaders Chelsea hosting champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. In a replay of the Champions League final last season, European champions Chelsea have the upper hand. They are top of the standings with 13 points, three ahead of fifth placed City. The Blues are coming from a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in the League Cup, a game they went on to win on post match penalties. Thomas Tuchel rested a number of key players in that game and getting back to the league, he will hope to continue with a run that has Chelsea on four wins in five in the competition. The hosts have scored in all their games this season and have four clean sheets in five league games. In four of the five games in the league, they have scored two or more, and head to this game on back to back 3-0 wins in the league. Romelu Lukaku has been the main man, with three goals in the last four league games but others, like Matteo Kovacic have been outstanding for the Blues. The Croatian has three assists in six games, has scored one from a midfield position, and his pass accuracy is at 93%, having managed 378 complete ones from the 408 attempted.

Manchester City will not be pushovers, though they haven’t had a run as good as Chelsea’s this season. Top of their agenda will be three points but they’ll also be looking to stop a run of three straight losses to Chelsea, including a painful one in the Champions League final in May. In their last league game, City looked sluggish, and went on to draw 0-0 at home to Southampton. They however recovered to thrash Wycombe Wanderers 6-1 in a comeback win in the League Cup and they’ll be looking to put their best foot forward this time. With 18 goals in the last five matches, City have the potency they need in attack. They have 11 in the five league games played but will have issues defensively, going to this game without the injured Aymeric Laporte and John Stones. Another defensive player, Oleksandr Zinchenko is also a major doubt but in Kevin De Bruyne, they have a player who can open up Chelsea with the slightest opportunity. The former Chelsea man has three goals in six matches against Chelsea, and he will be banked on as City try to improve on their run of one win in five against Chelsea. In the last six matches against Chelsea, City haven’t managed a clean sheet.
