A first win for Celtic will take them above their Austrian opponents. It's been a disappointing start to the new season for Celtic. They lost in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and are only second, five points behind leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. It's not gone well in the Europa League either with only one point being earned from their first two matches so a win here is really needed.

Celtic - Sturm Graz: Form Analysis
Both of these clubs began the season in the Champions League. In the play-off round, they beat Bodo/Glimt 2-1 but lost the away leg 5-0. That's the big problem the Austrian side faces in European competition.
Sturm Graz struggle on the road.
They have lost their last six away fixtures with the last three being lost by an aggregate score of 12-0. In this league phase, they lost 2-0 to Midtjylland in their opening game. Three points came their way when beating Celtic's main rivals Rangers 2-1.
Rangers have struggled this season and it's not been easy-going for Celtic either. Their Champions League campaign ended in the play-off round, losing to Kairat in a penalty shootout. Their time in the Europa League hasn't been too successful either.
They drew their opening game at Red Star Belgrade 1-1 but did lead in that match. That was followed by a 2-0 home defeat to Braga. That's their only loss in their last 11 home league and cup games.

Celtic's inconsistent start to the new season continued at the weekend. The Scottish Premiership champions were beaten 2-0 at Dundee and are now five points behind leaders Hearts. They are also playing catch-up in the Europa League and really need three points on Thursday.
Team changes are likely for Celtic.
After the disappointing weekend loss coach Brendan Rodgers is likely to make a few changes for the visit of Sturm Graz. James Forrest, Michel Ange Balikwisha and Arne Engels could start this match. They will be without Alistair Johnsto, Jota and Daizen Maeda.
Sturm Graz need to find an answer to their away day blues in European football. Their poor away form has already cost them a place in the Champions League this season, hence their demotion to this competition. A negative performance that earns them a point would be appreciated.
They also have some injury problems with Daniil Khudyakov, Oliver Christensen and Belmin Beganovic absent. They will have Otar Kiteishvili fit for this game and he's already scored eight goals this season.
