It's been an up and down week for Celtic. They lost at home to Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League but still managed to squeeze their way into the last 32. Those celebrations were short-lived though as they lost 2-0 at Hibs on Sunday and lost top spot in the Scottish Premiership. They are now third in the table a point behind leaders Rangers with a game in hand and one behind second-placed Kilmarnock but with two games played less. The loss at Hibs ended a run of nine league games without a defeat including a 1-1 draw at Motherwell. At home, Celtic have won their last seven home league games and have one defeat in the last 55 games going back to 2015. They enjoy hosting Motherwell as the last four home league games against them have all been won with 16 goals scored.

Motherwell are down in ninth place in the table but nine points above the relegation places. They won away at St Johnstone on Saturday to end a run of three league games without a win. That run did include the 1-1 home draw with Celtic earned by an equalizer two minutes from time. Their away form is poor with three wins and six defeats conceding 19 goals and only scoring nine. Three of the last four away league games have been lost and Celtic can get back in winning ways with a home win, leading at both half and full time.
