Ceara’s poor start to the season got even worse early on Friday as they fell 3-0 to Serie A leaders Vasco da Gama and they will be looking to improve when they host Bahia on Monday. Going to the game, Ceara are placed 19th on one point after four matches while Bahia have seven points from three matches and are placed fourth. For some time, Ceara looked like they’d get something from their last game, against Vasco da Gama, but they capitulated in the last 22 minutes, conceding three goals. The loss to Vasco was their biggest this season and in the last three matches they have conceded within the last 25 minutes and went on to drop points. They led until the 70th minute against Gremio but that ended 1-1 before losing to Atletico Mineiro after conceding in the 73rd and 90th minutes, then came the late fall against Vasco da Gama. Ceara have conceded nine goals in their opening four matches, making them the side with the poorest defence. They have no clean sheet in the four matches and have failed to score in their last two. The latest defeat just stretched their winless run in the league to 11 matches, during which they have no clean sheet and have failed to score in five. Ceara are without a win in their last five league matches at home; they have managed to score in three of the five but haven’t managed more than a goal in any of the five. In their last 12 home league matches, only one has yielded over 2.5 goals. Ceara have no win in their last four matches; their last win came against Bahia early in August as they met in the Copa do Nordeste. They are actually unbeaten in five matches against Bahia, the last three of which have been in the Copa do Nordeste. In the five meetings, Bahia have three wins and two draws.

Bahia on the other hand, have had a good start to the season and despite having played a game less, they are six points ahead of Ceara. Their perfect start to the season ended in their last match in a 1-1 draw with Sao Paulo on Friday and Bahia will be looking to get back to winning ways. Bahia did not have a very good ending to their campaign in 2019 but in three matches in 2020 they’ve already won as many as they did in their last 12 last season – two. They will be hoping to improve on their away run, having managed just one win in the last seven. Last season Bahia managed five away wins in 19 matches and after their 1-1 draw with Sao Paulo, they will head here hoping for a first away win this season. In 11 of Bahia’s last 12 Serie A matches, both teams have scored and the same is the case in their last six away matches in the league.
