Canada and Finland will lock horns in the second semi-final of the 2026 IIHF World Championship on Saturday night. Team Canada are unbeaten in this competition, and we are leaning toward them edging the Lions in this match as our main prediction.
After their disapointing early exit last year, Canada are now set to feature in their 10th World Championship semi-final in the last 11 years after thumping the USA 4-0 in the last eight.
Along with Switzerland, Team Canada have won all eight matches in this competition. Captain Macklin Celebrini has led the team from the front and is their top scorer with 12 points (G6 A6).
Canada are the second-highest scoring team in the competition with 37 goals. They are on a 10-match win streak and have won four of their last five against this opponent.
Meanwhile, Finland have also been very impressive this year. Despite losing their final group-stage game to Switzerland, they bounced back excellently by beating Czechia 4-1 in the quarter-final.
With 35 goals, the Lions are the third-highest scorers in the competition. They have two players on nine points apiece, including Jesse Puljujarvi (G4 A5), who was their standout performer in the last round.
The Finns have won nine of their last 10 matches in all competitions. They beat this opponent on penalties in last year’s World Championship.

Our Canada vs Finland Prediction
Finland have exceeded expectations in this year’s World Championship and made the most of a somewhat favourable draw in the quarter-finals by making light work of the Czech Republic (4-1).
However, Canada are one of only two teams - along with Switzerland - that are still unbeaten in this competition - and they look determined to right their wrongs from last year. Team Canada beat the Lions at the Olympics in February, and we fancy them to do the same in this match. Our Canada vs Finland prediction is Canada wins.
