Sheffield United seek respite from their Premier League misery this weekend when they travel to Bristol Rovers for an FA Cup third-round clash. The Blades are on course for the worst points tally in English top-flight history after picking up only two points from their opening 17 games of the campaign. Of course, this tally leaves them anchored to the bottom of the table. Bristol, by comparison, look like high-flyers. While the Pirates have 20 points more than Sheffield United, they are struggling in League One, where they lie 18th. That situation is changing, though. If Bristol can keep up their good recent form, then it won't be long before they climb out of the mire. They won four of their last five matches in all competitions. Their home form is a mirror image of that previous stat with four wins from five games across the league and two cups. In the FA Cup, they are unbeaten in their past four home fixtures.

It's been an extraordinarily poor season for Sheffield United. After challenging for a European place in the previous campaign, the Blades have not been able to win a match all season. An early exit from the League Cup robbed them of a chance to get a win on the board outside of the Premier League's competitive bubble. Sheffield United have found it hard to even draw a game, frustratingly losing by one goal on 11 separate occasions.
