Watford didn’t have the best of endings to their opening league game against Aston Villa but they will be glad to have held on, and will hope to build on when they travel to Brighton on Match Day 2. While Watford won 3-2 against Villa, Brighton came from a goal down to beat their hosts, Burnley 2-1. Brighton’s win was their first in four matches, and also the first time they managed to score in four matches. They go to the game with just one clean sheet in five, and having conceded two or more goals in three of the five games. The last time these two sides met, it ended in a 1-1 draw; that was the third draw in six matches pitting these two sides. While Brighton will boast of better topflight experience, they haven’t won much in it and there will be little in terms of quality to lift them above Watford. They have just three wins n 10 league matches.

Watford raced to a 3-0 lead over Aston Villa, announcing their return to the Premier League in style but they fizzled out in the final 20 minutes as Villa took control. By the 90th minute, they were literally hanging on, as Danny Ings scored Villa’s second goal and Watford would give a heavy sigh at full time, seeing the score board read 3-2 in their favor. That is the kind of environment they are going to deal with in the Premier League, but having been there two seasons ago, they should know it. This was their first win in five matches and in many signs, it showed they still have a lot of ground to cover as they rejoin the elites. They have one clean sheet as well in the last six matches and both sides have scored in five of their last six matches. Away from home, Watford haven’t been very encouraging, with just one win in the last six matches, and they haven’t managed more than a goal in the process.
