The battle for survival in the Premier League is on, and Brighton will be hoping they can rise further away from the relegation zone when they get to host Newcastle United, who also badly want the three points here. Brighton are positioned 16th with 29 points while Newcastle United are 17th with 28 points. In their last game, Brighton dominated Southampton and won 2-1, getting back to winning ways after going six matches without a win. They still have no clean sheet in the last four matches, but will be glad to have bagged 15 points from their last 10 league matches, which places them three points above the relegation zone. Brighton have been low scoring, but also don’t concede a lot. In their last 11 league matches, they’ve been able to score more than a goal in just one but have conceded more than one goal in only four of the last 15 league games. An improvement in their home performances will be key if Brighton hope to successfully negotiate the survival curve. A run of just one win in 18 home league matches dating back to June 2020 doesn’t sit really well with their ambitions. This season, in 14 matches at home, they have one win and have registered just 10 points from their home matches. A big stat they will be looking to with hope, is the fact that in seven meetings with Newcastle, they’ve kept six clean sheets.

Newcastle United are now winless in five matches and their chances of staying up are still uncertain. They sit on top of the relegation region, only two points better than Fulham and just like Brighton, they’ve also been low scorers. In the last five matches the Magpies haven’t managed more than one goal, and they have just two wins in their last 19 matches across all competitions. In nine of the last 15 matches, Newcastle have conceded two goals or more and have managed just three clean sheets in the 15 games. From a possible 45 points in the last 15 league matches, the Magpies have managed to collect just 10 points and have a poor run, of seven losses in the last 10 away league matches. Their only wins in the last 10 away league games have been against Crystal Palace and Everton, while they have failed to score in six of their last eight away league matches. In September, Newcastle lost 3-0 at home to Brighton, marking their seventh straight winless outing against this opponent.
