Brentford revived their promotion hopes with a return to winning ways in the last game as they beat Preston 5-0 and they will be on the hunt again when they host Millwall on Saturday. The hosts have 73 points, in fourth place and their visitors ninth with 58 points. This is a derby and apart from their season’s ambitions, bragging rights will also be on offer. Last season, Brentford missed out on automatic promotion by two points so count on them to go all out as they look avoid a repeat of the disappointment. With a game in hand, they’re nine points below the second automatic slot and if they can win this one, they’ll have the impetus to push in the final five matches. In terms of attack, Brentford have been the best in the league this season, with 71 goals, and Ivan Toney has had a great contribution here, with 29 goals. The win over Preston was their first after a run of four draws, but Brentford are unbeaten in the last six matches and they’ve been good defensively, conceding more than a goal in just two of their last 10 Championship matches. At home, Brentford are unbeaten in the last four matches and have just one loss in the last 10. From a possible 30 points in the last 10 home matches in the league, they’ve managed 23.

Millwall’s three-game winning run was harshly halted in a 3-0 home loss to Swansea and their own promotion hopes took a huge blow. They are now 13 points below sixth and with five games to play, it is next to impossible that they can make it to the playoff slots. The visitors do not score a lot of goals; in the top 12 they’ve scored the least goals (41) but have scored in 11 straight away matches. Three of their last four away matches have produced over 2.5 goals and both sides have scored in eight of their last 10 away league matches. It will be tougher for Millwall in this game with key midfielders Ryan Leonard and Ben Thompson reportedly out with injury.
