The new season is here and for the first time since 1947, Brentford will be playing in the top flight, starting it off with a home game against Arsenal. The fans are back and it will be an interesting feel, as both teams try to get off to a flying start. Brentford finally secured promotion after winning the playoffs last season and have strengthened in the shape of centre-back Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic and midfielder Frank Onyeka from Midtjylland. They’ve also managed to hold on their top players, most notably Ivan Toney who scored 33 goals last season in the Championship. Brentford have had a good preseason, playing six friendly matches and winning four. They only lost once – to West Ham United and wrapped it up with a 2-1 win over Valencia ahead of the league start. They have had consistency in attack, only failing to score in one of the six matches, while they scored two or more in four. However, they have no clean sheet in their last four matches, and three of them have produced over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal, on the other hand, seems to still have the issues that affected their season last term, and they go to this game winless in their four preseason friendly matches. The Gunners lost three and drew one of their four preseason games; they had no clean sheet and conceded twice in three of them. They failed to score in one and the bluntness that was so evident in attack last season stays on as Mikel Arteta’s side heads into the new campaign. Ben White, a centre-back has been the key addition for Arsenal, joining from Brighton while Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares have also been brought in from Anderlecht and Benfica. The team will miss Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes who are injured, while Gabi Martinelli may not feature, having just arrived from the Olympic Games. In three of their last four matches, both teams have scored and the three have produced over 2.5 goals.
