With just one win in the Premier League this season, Southampton are clearly struggling. They have done a bit better in the League Cup and after the international break they will want to pick points at Bournemouth, which is by no means going to be an easy outing. In recent times, Bournemouth have only been pegged back by the 4 – 0 loss to Burnley, apart from that they have done extremely well, picking four wins in the last five matches. They head to this game on three straight wins, one of those a League Cup game, and they are 11 points ahead of Southampton this early in the season. Bournemouth have suffered just two losses and playing at home, where they are unbeaten in all competitions this season will have them charged up. They have four wins in the last five home matches and scored at least two goals per game in four of the five. In their eight matches this season, they have only failed to score in the two matches they have lost; in the remaining six, they have scored two or more and average two goals per game this season, with 16 scored and 12 conceded. Southampton on the other hand, are winless in their last five matches; they have lost three and drawn two, with one of the draws a League Cup game which they went on to win on post match penalties. They have failed to score in the three they lost. They have had a porous defence in the season – the reason for their low placing on the table. In eight games they have conceded 16 goals and scored just six. With five points, they could drop to the relegation region after this weekend’s fixtures. Their only win in the league, and clean sheet this season have come away from home, at the start of September.
