As Bundesliga resumes after the international break Borussia Dortmund will be hoping to establish their footprint in the Bundesliga title race as well as sticking a neck in the Champions League slots. Placed fifth with 43 points, they host fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt who are four points ahead. This is one of the best chances Dortmund will get to try and rise into the top four and their solid recent record at home should work well. They have no loss in the last eight home matches, with five wins and scoring two or more goals in seven of the eight. However, they have just three clean sheets in the process. In a very inconsistent campaign, Dortmund have had the biggest cheer served by Norwegian forward Erling Haaland. Right before the international break, he saved the team from an impending defeat in the 2-2 draw with Cologne. The striker scored the two goals, the second coming in the 90th minute, making it six goals in four matches for the team. Despite the inconsistency, Dortmund are still within touching distance of a Champions League place but to be able to make their final run in better, they’ll have to devise a way of seeing off matches. This will call for better defending from the team that has conceded in 13 of the last 15 matches, with three of the last four matches having seen them concede at least two goals.

Eintracht Frankfurt are looking to hold on the Champions League place they have at the moment. It will call for a lot but they have shown all season they have what it takes. Going to the international break, they thumped Union Berlin 5-2 to end a three-game winless run, and will be hoping to pick it from there as they head to Signal Iduna Park. They have no clean sheet in the last five matches, which should be a concern heading to a game of Dortmund’s magnitude and facing one of the top strikers in the league. However, they have just one loss in the last 11 matches and the win over Union Berlin was the seventh in the run. Apart from the few clean sheets coming through for Frankfurt, a big worry will be in their away performances. In their last 13 away matches across all competitions, they’ve managed just four wins. All their losses this season, in the league have come away from home. In 13 away league matches, they have five wins and collected 20 points from a possible 39, leaving them with a 38% win rate on the road.
