AC Milan will start their Serie A campaign this season with a trip to Renato Dall’Ara to face Bologna. Both sides are out to improve on last season’s performance, when Milan finished fourth and Bologna ninth. Hosts Bologna haven't had much going their way in this fixture, failing to win in the last 15 meetings. They however drew 1-1 with Milan in their last meeting – a second such result in three meetings. Bologna started their season with a 2-0 win over Cesena in the Coppa Italia, improving from a poor finish to their preseason. They come into this game seeking a better start than last season, when they went without a win for the opening five games. Among those five games was a 2-0 loss to AC Milan. Bologna however had a stronger finish to the league, going unbeaten in five, with three draws and two wins. They managed just two clean sheets in their closing 10 league matches though, with both teams scoring in eight.

AC Milan had a strong finish to their preseason, beating Novara 4-2 but their struggles in defence remain clear. The visitors managed no clean sheet in their six preseason matches, conceding two or more in three. Milan will hope to better their start last season, when they won four of the first six matches. They did finish strong in the league, with three straight wins and will want to pick it up from there. Their only loss in the last 11 league matches was a shock one, 2-0 against Spezia. That was also the only time in the last nine league games that Milan failed to score. In those nine games, both teams scored in five. With five wins in eight league games, Milan will be confident of a strong start. Milan have also beaten Bologna seven times in the last 10 meetings and will expect to extend this dominance.
