Championship action returns to Ewood Park on Thursday as Blackburn Rovers host Middlesbrough in a match between two teams with genuine playoff aspirations. For Rovers it is a must-win game, while the Smoggies must take at least a point to move into a playoff spot, albeit perhaps only for 24-hours. Let’s take a closer look at our prediction for the game.
After being in the playoff spots most of the season, Blackburn’s recent form under new boss Valerien Ismael has been poor, with five defeats in the last six seeing them drop down to 11th in the table with 52 points from 39 games. In contrast, after a very slow start, Middlesbrough’s recent form has been impressive and the Smoggies now lie seventh in the table on 57 points from 39 games, outside of the playoffs on goal difference only.
Rovers' dismal form continued in their last game when they went down 1-0 away to Portsmouth. That made it four defeats in a row for Rovers after losing to Derby (2-1), Stoke (1-0) and Cardiff (2-1) previously.
Middlesbrough have recently beaten QPR 2-1 at home, then were held 0-0 away at Luton before their last game saw a crucial 2-1 win over Oxford to push themselves into playoff contention.

Our Blackburn vs Middlesbrough Prediction
Our prediction for the Blackburn Rovers vs. Middlesbrough Championship match is: Middlesbrough wins the match.
Timing is often key in matches between two playoff contenders. Middlesbrough come into this away game in good form and Blackburn's form has nosedived since John Eustace left the club to take over at Derby. Middlesbrough's last win against Blackburn came a couple of years ago at Ewood Park and the odds look good that Michael Carrick and his team will earn all three points from this away trip.
