Birmingham took a massive step towards defending their Championship status with a 1-0 away win over Rotherham United on Sunday. They will be hoping to rise further when they host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, with just one point separating the sides. Birmingham have 48 points in 18th place while Nottingham are 16th on 49 points. The hosts have hit form at the right time and the away win against Rotherham hands them a fourth straight unbeaten outing with four straight clean sheets in the Championship. They’ve failed to score in one of those four matches. Birmingham are now nine points above the relegation zone and playing at home should offer great hope, having won each of the last three.

Nottingham aren’t doing so well lately, and come to this game on the back of a 2-0 loss to Huddersfield Town. In Birmingham’s form, we’d be inclined to feel it will be a tougher challenge than Huddersfield, and the fact that Nottingham have no goal in the last two matches makes it harder. They are 10 points above the relegation zone but still won’t be safe even with a win here, with Rotherham still having two games in hand. Nottingham have had issues in attack, scoring more than a goal in just one of the last 14 league matches, while they failed to score completely in seven of those. They have one win in the last five away matches in the Championship and at 34 goals, they are the lowest scorers among teams in the top 17 positions in the Championship standings.
