The Monday night game in La Liga comes from Seville and what to some extent is a club in crisis with Quique Setien rumoured to be on the brink of the sack at Real Betis after a serious downturn in form since the turn of the year. Espanyol will be hoping to pile the pressure on the former Las Palmas boss here although there’s not a great deal at stake in truth in this game with both teams heading for mid-table finishes. The main story here is Betis though. Setien did a brilliant job last season in guiding them to Europe and a league finish above city rivals Sevilla. Everything appeared to be going pretty well this term too but things have slowly unravelled with the fans starting to turn against their coach for more reasons than merely poor results. Last week’s 4-0 loss at struggling Levante felt like it might have been the final straw and Setien can expect a really hostile reaction if there is no response from his team here. Espanyol meanwhile take reasonable form into this game having not lost any of their last 5 matches. They’ve had a solid rather than spectacular season which is generally their style but Rubi will be able to reflect on a decent first year in Barcelona. They are level on points with Betis heading into this match but will fancy this is a good time to be playing them.
