Benfica and PSV are coming from good starts to their seasons and will be eyeing a place in the group stage of the Champions League when they get to face off in the play-offs. The first leg will be staged at Benfica and after four straight wins, they will feel confident enough to face PSV. The Portuguese giants are coming from a 2-0 win over Arouca in the domestic league, a fourth straight game they’ve managed to score twice in. They have conceded just one goal in the four matches. Benfica made it to this stage after a 4-0 aggregate win over Spartak Moscow, winning 2-0 at home and 2-0 away. They have no loss in the last nine matches, only losing once in the last 17 matches. At home, they are unbeaten in 10 matches.

PSV, on their part, have not lost any of their last 17 matches. This season alone, they’ve already played six matches, and won all, some with very comfortable margins. They whacked Galatasaray 7-2 on aggregate earlier, and went on to eliminate Midtjylland 4-0 on aggregate before setting up this clash. They will fancy their chances here after keeping four straight clean sheets ahead of this game, and in their scoring run, they can’t be faulted for having the favorites’ feel. In five of their last six matches, PSV have scored two or more goals, and away from home, they have four straight wins, while they have four clean sheets in five matches.
