Benfica are the reigning champions and only once in the last six years have they failed to be Portuguese champions. They have made a strong start to the new season with two wins out of two and they top the table. First up, Benfica beat Ferreira 5-0 at home and followed that up with a 2-0 victory at Belenenses. That makes it 11 straight league wins for Benfica. They only lost one home league game last season and that was in November of last year. Since then, they have won 13 of their 14 home games scoring 60 goals. Each of their last five home league games has seen them score at least four goals. That's not likely to happen in this game though as games between these two sides tend to be close affairs. Benfica won two of their three games against Porto last season including a league double.

Porto haven't made such a good start to the season as their opponents. They have three points from their two games played this season. They suffered a shock defeat in their opening league game as they lost 2-1 at newly promoted Gil Vicente. Their first league win came when beating Setubal 4-0 at home. Even worse for Porto was being knocked out of the Champions League. They won away at Krasnodar but then lost the home leg 3-2 to exit on away goals. That means they will be in the Europa League group stages this season.  Porto only lost one away league game last season and that was at Benfica. This should be a tight game but Benfica can get an important home win to go five points clear of Porto.
