Bayern Munich finally got it right in the Super Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund, winning 3-1 for Julian Nagelsmann’s first win as the club’s manager. They will be at home in the next assignment, a league game against FC Cologne. While Bayern opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, Cologne came from behind to register a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin. Bayern have one win in six matches and they have no clean sheet in their last eight, just one in 10. Defensively they haven’t been at their best but in attack they are something else, with Robert Lewandowski in. The Bundesliga champions have scored two or more goals in six of their last 10 matches, and Lewandowski has already hit form with three goals in the last two matches. The Polish forward has six goals in the last six meetings with Cologne. They did lose to Cologne in preseason, but in competitive action, Bayern have seven straight wins over Cologne and are unbeaten in their last 14 meetings. In the Bundesliga, Bayern are unbeaten in their last 27 matches at home.

FC Cologne beat Bayern 3-2 in preseason and will be hoping their good start this season can see them get a first competitive win over the Bavarians in 15 meetings. They are unbeaten in their last nine matches but with just two clean sheets in their last 10 matches. One area they will need to address is the way they start their matches; in the opening two this season, they’ve had to come from down. In their most recent, they came from a goal down to beat Hertha Berlin 3-1. That would be commendable in terms of their fighting spirit but against Bayern, it can be tougher. Their win over Hertha marked the sixth time in 10 games that they’ve scored two or more goals, while they’ve failed to score completely just once. Cologne had a poor campaign last season, and only managed to stay up via the playoffs. They will hope their bad days in the league don’t turn up this early. In the last seven away league games, they’ve failed to score in four and they have one win, one clean sheet and five losses.
