Bayer Leverkusen have a big lead from their first leg clash with Scottish side Rangers in their last 16 Europa League tie ahead of the two sides clash in Germany on Thursday. The Germans registered a 3-1 win in Glasgow, and having finished fifth in Bundesliga, will attach a lot of importance on this competition as they seek qualification to Champions League. With three away goals, and a two-goal cushion, they will hope to finish this off and have the backing of a great run at home, where they have nine wins in the last 11 matches. They have scored in each of their last 11 home matches and in nine of them two goals or more but they have just four clean sheets in the process. Leverkusen dropped to the Europa League after elimination from the Champions League and they have not disappointed in the three matches so far, winning all. They saw off Porto 5-2 on aggregate to set up this meeting with Rangers but while they have done well, they have no clean sheet in any of the three matches.

Rangers, on the other hand, had a fine start to their domestic campaign at the start of August, with a 1-0 win away to Aberdeen and after a fine preseason, they will be keen to keep it that way. They have not conceded in any of their last five games, which include four preseason friendly matches and they will get a real test here. The loss to Leverkusen in the first leg of this tie was Rangers’ first in six Europa League matches; it ended a run of five matches unbeaten, with Rangers having won three of the five. Away from home, however, Rangers have one win in the last five Europa League matches though they have lost just one. They will need massive improvement to be able to turn this tie in their favor and one clean sheet in four away matches in the competition doesn’t show they have the capability.
