Barcelona lead the table by eight points after Tuesday's La Liga games. It could easily have been just seven or could have remained at ten points. It looked good for them when leading 2-0 at Villarreal but not so great when going into the 90th minute 4-2 down. Goals in the 90th and 93rd minutes saw Barcelona grab an unlikely draw and extend their unbeaten run to 18 league games. Now they have the chance to beat Atletico Madrid and go 11 points clear with seven games to go. Barcelona have won seven of their last eight home league games since a 4-3 defeat by Real Betis in November. That's their only home league loss in 51 games going back to September 2016.

Atletico Madrid had a 2-0 home win over Girona on Tuesday evening to close the gap on Barcelona. They surely have to win this match to have any chance of winning La Liga. Since their Champions League exit at the hands of Juventus, Atletico have lost at Athletic Bilbao but won their last two games. They have been blowing hot and cold on their travels with the last five league games producing three wins and two defeats. Only six of their 15 away league games have ended in a win for Atletico. Barcelona are undefeated in ther last seven games against Atletico and can win this game to all but win the title.
