Azerbaijan will be eyeing a third straight win when they host Austria in their Euro 2024 qualifier this Monday. Playing in Group F, Azerbaijan are fourth, two places below their visitors, the two sides coming from contrasting results. Azerbaijan posted their first win in this group, beating bottom side Estonia 2-0. Azerbaijan need a major haul to stay in contention for the Euro 2024 finals. At the moment, they are mathematically capable but they can’t afford to drop any points. To start with, they’ll need a 3-0 win here to stay in contention. That seems improbable and they should, realistically, try not to finish bottom. Ahead of their win over Estonia, they had beaten Jordan 2-1 in a friendly. In Euro qualifiers, that was their first win in 18 matches. At home in the qualifiers, they have no win in eight. Azerbaijan have failed to score in just two of their last five matches, but they have one clean sheet only in five. At home, both sides have scored in three of Azerbaijan’s last five Euro qualification matches.

These two nations have only met in competitive action. This will be their sixth meeting and in the earlier five, Austria have never lost, winning four. Their first meeting in this group ended in a 4-1 win for Austria. Unlike Azerbaijan who are coming from a win, Austria lost their last game, falling 3-2 at home to Belgium. They however stay in strong contention for a place at Euro 2024 through this group. A win here will seal their spot at the finals, otherwise they can also qualify if Sweden fails to beat Belgium. The loss to Belgium halted an eight-game unbeaten run that had six wins in it. It is the few clean sheets in their recent run though, that’s a major concern. Austria have just one clean sheet in five matches across all competitions. Both teams scored in four of their last five matches but they’ve been stronger in attack. In six of their last eight matches, Austria scored two or more goals. They also scored in each of their last 10 matches.
