Bayonne have made a promising start to their Top 14 campaign, putting together four wins in their opening six matches. They fell 45–34 to defending champions Stade Toulousain in their last match, but had won their previous three fixtures.
L'Aviron carried their strong domestic form into their Challenge Cup opener last weekend by seeing off Cheetahs 29–17. That result extended their perfect record to four wins from four matches at Stade Jean-Dauger this season. They have won each of their last four Top 14 home meetings with Lyon.
Lyon have lost momentum after a strong start to the campaign. Le LOU suffered their third consecutive double-digit defeat in the French top flight following a 28–16 loss at home to Stade Rochelais last time out.
Their poor run of form continued in their Challenge Cup opener last weekend when they fell 40–33 to the visiting Sharks. Karim Ghezal’s side have also lost five of their last six Top 14 away matches since last season, with four of those defeats coming by emphatic margins.
