The automatic qualification berth for the 2026 World Cup is up for grabs as Austria host Bosnia & Herzegovina in Group H. The two clash on Tuesday, with Austria topping the pool on 18 points, two ahead of Bosnia. Read on for our prediction of the match.
Austria stayed in the driving seat as far as finishing top is concerned following their 2-0 win against Cyprus. The Saturday win means a draw in the final round will be enough for Austria.
They are bidding for a first World Cup showing since 1998 and have put in the work for it. Ralf Rangnick’s men have won six of their seven group games, only falling to Romania. They’ve also been strong at home, unbeaten in 10.
Bosnia are coming off a powerful outing and will test Austria to the core after a 3-1 home win against Romania.
The visitors have been impressive on the road, winning three of their last five such matches, and will be inspired by that here. They have only participated in the World Cup once as an independent nation (2014), so there’s a big ground to break.
To get an automatic spot for the 2026 showpiece, this is a must-win game. There will still be a second chance should this one end winless, as they’ve secured a playoff slot already.

Our Austria vs Bosnia Herzegovina Prediction
These two sides meet in a group decider, and there is a possibility this will be a tense game. Austria will, however, have the advantage, playing at home in a fixture they’ve had a head-to-head edge in.
They are unbeaten at home, and with the expectation of a tight game, scores might be low. Bosnia have been improving on the road but are generally not winning a lot, which may affect their chances here. Our prediction for this Austria v Bosnia & Herzegovina match is for Austria to win and under 2.5 goals.
