Atletico Mineiro started their Serie A campaign on a high, beating champions Flamengo 1-0 and will be looking to make it two straight wins when they host 2017 champs, Corinthians. The opening win, served by Filipe Luis’ own goal, saw Atletico finish Week 1 in third place as Corinthians’ game against Atletico GO was postponed. After lockdown, Mineiro played four matches in the Mineiro 1, drawing one and winning three before opening their league campaign with a win. They have won each of their last four home matches and have scored in each of their last nine. However, Atletico Mineiro’s Serie A run has been patchy, with just six wins in their last 25 league matches, and with five clean sheets in the last 15 league games, they will be hoping for a better defence. They won their last two home matches in the league in 2019, beating Corinthians 2-1 and Botafogo 2-0 to make it four wins in six home league matches and they have failed to score in just two of their last 10 home league matches. In the last six meetings, each of these two sides has won twice, with two matches ending in draws.

On their part, Corinthians hope to have a good season after finishing eighth in 2019 and 13th the year after winning the title. They had a losing start last season and will want to avoid that this season, even though they didn’t finish their Paulista A1 run on a high, losing on post match penalties to Palmeiras after back to back draws. Their run in the league was not the best last season, as they finished with three wins in their last 16 matches. While they scored in 11 of their final 15 league matches last season, they managed just four clean sheets. Last season, Corinthians managed just four away wins in the 19 matches played and as they start away from home, they will be looking to have a better experience on the road.
