Another instalment of the Madrid Derby is here, and this time Atletico Madrid hosts Real Madrid at Wanda Metropolitano. This match will have a big impact on the La Liga title race as Atletico are currently top of the standings with 58 points and Real third, five points below. Atletico returned to winning ways in their last outing, beating Villarreal 2-0 to end a run of three winless matches in all competitions. Going to this game, perhaps their biggest hope will be for top man Luis Suarez to end his goal drought, having failed to score in the last five matches. They will also be hoping for a home win after failing in the last three matches, and the hosts go here with two straight losses at home. In La Liga, two wins in their last five matches have seen their lead significantly cut and what seemed to be a smooth journey to the title now has questions all over it. The last three of Atletico’s league matches have produced under 2.5 goals and though they have the best defence in the league, they’ve managed just one clean sheet in the last eight league games.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, go to this game unbeaten in their last six matches. However, they had to dig deep in their last game, a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad. Vinicius Junior scored in the 89th minute to earn them the draw after Portu’s 55th minute opener. The result was the marker of Real Madrid’s grit at a time they’re facing a lot of struggles, with injuries piling. Portu’s goal was the first time Real conceded in the last five matches, while they’ve scored just a goal in each of their last three matches. Most of their recent games have been low scoring and even heading here, the last five have each produced under 2.5 goals. They will however be glad to welcome back lead scorer Karim Benzema who returns from injury. Real are the second best performing away team in the league, and head here with eight wins in their 13 away league matches this season. Their only away loss in the league this season was against Valencia in November. Since then they’ve gone on an eight-game unbeaten run away from home, winning five.
