Atletico Madrid bid to make it two wins out of two this season in La Liga. The defending champions are fourth in the table and host Elche who are tenth. Atletico began the defence of their title with a 2-1 away win at Celta Vigo, both goals being scored by Angel Correa. The summer has seen Atletico sign Rodrigo de Paul from Udinese for £31.5m but it is essentially the same set of players that won them the title last season. Atletico are unbeaten in their last seven home La Liga matches, winning the last six. They did the league double over Elche last season, winning 1-0 away and 3-1 at home. 

Elche had a narrow escape from relegation last season. They had to win their final two games of the season to escape an immediate return to La Liga II.  Their new season began with a goalless home draw with Athletic Bilbao who they beat on the last day of the 2020/21 season to ensure survival. Their away form is not good though with only one win in their last 17 league matches. That was in their final away game of last season at Cadiz. Before that they had lost nine of their last ten. Back Atletico to win this match and be ahead at both half and full time.
