Atlanta United are top of the Eastern Conference and have a one-point lead over New York City but six clear of third-placed New York Red Bulls as they bid to automatically qualify for the MLS quarter-finals. They go into this game with just one win in the last three with a recent  3-2 defeat at  FC Dallas who are currently top of the Western Conference  but they led that game 2-1 up to the 86th minute. Atlanta were held 1-1 at home by Seattle Sounders in their most recent home match. The loss at Dallas is their only loss in their last six games and at home have won six out of 11 league games with just two defeats. 

Wayne Rooney recently made his debut for DC United but he has a lot of work to do to get his new team up to a decent league position. They are currently bottom of the Eastern Conference and 13 points off the play-off places. All isn't quite as bad as it seems though because United have only played 15 league games this season, just three have been at home and they have up to six games in hand on other sides. They have only lost one of their last four league games but their away form isn't promising with just one win in 12 games this season. Just two of their last 24 away games have produced league wins and even with Rooney aboard, this game looks booked for a home win.
