Athletic Bilbao welcomes Barcelona to the Estadio San Mames for their quarter final match in the Copa del Rey. This is a rematch of last season’s final when Barcelona won 4-0. Bilbao will be looking for redemption after that one sided final. Strangely both these teams are coming off defeats to Real Madrid in their last match. Bilboa lost to Madrid in the final of the Super Cup while Barcelona lost to them in the semifinal of the same tournament. The home team’s loss in the Super Cup was their first in five matches but their home record has not been good recently having only won once in their last five matches. Bilboa can look at their poor defensive record at home as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six home matches.

Barcelona look to be finding their best form in recent matches after a very poor start to the season. They were unlucky to lose to Madrid in the Super Cup as they lost the match in extra time after the score was 2-2 after regulation time. They will be looking to defend their title and this Cup represents their best chance of silverware this season. They are unbeaten in their last five away matches in Spain with just one defeat in their last nine away matches. Barcelona are undefeated in their last three matches away to Bilboa, last tasting defeat in 2020 in a Copa del Rey match.
