Aston Villa and West Ham United are pushing for places in the top four and will be going head to head on Wednesday at Villa Park seeking the three points at stake. With two games in hand, Villa are placed ninth on 32 points while West Ham have 35 points, in fifth place. With two wins in their two matches in hand, Villa will could go fifth, and coming from a 1-0 win over Southampton, they will be looking to ride on the slim win. It hasn’t been easy for Villa in recent matches, they have lost three of their last five. They have two wins and two clean sheets only in their last seven. On a positive side though, they are unbeaten in three home matches in the league, with three clean sheets. At home in the league, they have scored five goals in the last two matches, and failed to score in just one of the last five.

West Ham United on the other hand, saw their six-match winning run cut short in the 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday. They start a run of three straight away matches hoping to get back to winning ways. The Liverpool loss was their first in nine matches, and the third in the last 15 outings. In the league, they have scored in 13 of their last 15 matches and will still have their confidence intact when they face Villa. With just one loss in the last seven league matches, they will be out to pile on Villa’s recent frustrations. Their away run will also play out here, having lost just once in the last six in the league. West Ham United have not lost to Aston Villa in the last five meetings, but have won just two in the process.
