Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have had contrasting fortunes in the FA Cup and three points will be up for grabs when the two face off at Villa Park in Round 18 of the Premier League. Hosts Aston Villa have so far managed 26 points and are placed eighth in the standings while Tottenham have 29 points and are placed fourth. Villa are coming from a 4-1 defeat at home to Liverpool in the FA Cup but none of their first team players featured in the game. Manager Dean Smith rested his top players and picked from the academy the team to face Liverpool and going by the strength of the team fielded by Liverpool, the youngsters did well. However, the defeat left Villa winless in three straight matches and when the first team players return, they’ll know the task ahead is tough. The team from Birmingham has four wins, four clean sheets in the last 10 matches and has failed to score in just one of the last 10 games. Four of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals and they have conceded two or more in seven of their last 14 matches, while scoring two or more in just five of the 14. In their last league match, Aston Villa lost 2-1 to Manchester United; that is their only loss in the last six league matches, and they have kept four clean sheets in that run. In their 15 league matches this season, Villa have failed to score in just two and in their last five home matches in the league, they have lost three and won one, while five of their last six home league matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Tottenham on the other hand, go to this game on a fine run – having won four and drawn one of their last five matches. The North London side is coming from a 5-0 win over Marine in the FA Cup, where they fielded a rather strong side for quite a weak opponent. Lead scorers Son Heung-min and Harry Kane didn’t feature in the game but still, most first team players were in action. The win saw Spurs register a third straight victory with three straight clean sheets. Spurs have now scored 14 goals in their last five matches and conceded just two. In the Premier League, things are different though; Spurs have not enjoyed a very good run, with just one win and one clean sheet in five league matches. They are winless in four away matches in the Premier League and haven’t scored more than a goal in their last six away matches in the league. Spurs are also without a clean sheet in the last three away league matches. Son and Kane have scored a combined 22 goals this season but going to this game they have not been scoring a lot in recent matches; they have scored two each in the last five league matches.
