Aston Villa’s only win in the last five matches was against Everton when the two faced off at the start of this month. They are set to face off again this Thursday, at Villa Park, as both seek high finishes in the season. Hosts Villa have 48 points in 11th place while Everton have 55 points, in eighth place. Aston Villa are coming from yet another loss, having fallen 3-1 to Manchester United on Sunday and in their second straight home game, they’ll want to make up for the lost points. It was the fourth time in five matches that they conceded two or more goals and they have no clean sheet in eight league matches. Villa secured survival in the league a while back, but with only two wins in the last 10 league matches, they’ll go here hoping for a lift. They haven’t really been great at home this season, with just six wins posted in the 17 league matches played. Going to this game they are winless in the last three home matches, and have no clean sheet in five. In four of the five, they’ve conceded two or more goals.

Everton are well on track in their chase for European football. They have a game in hand and just three points below fifth placed West Ham United. That was their second win in three matches; only dented by the loss to Villa at home. They will definitely want revenge for their loss to this same opponent on Labour Day and in their away record, there’s reason to believe they can do it. Everton have lost just once in 13 away league matches and won nine in the run. They have enjoyed away matches more, having won more than twice as many on the road as they have at home. In the last six away league games, Everton have four wins and five clean sheets.
