Chelsea need a win to seal a top four place on the final day and a trip to Birmingham to face Aston Villa awaits after their key win at home to Leicester City. The Blues go to this game placed third on 66 points while Villa are 11th with 52 points. The hosts are sure to finish in the bottom half despite their early season promise. Still they will be happy with the finish, considering they only survived on the final day last season. Villa can’t move from 11th place, no matter the result in this game so they have nothing to play for. They did register a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the last game, to end a three-game winless run but they have one clean sheet in the last 11 matches. Eight of their last 10 league matches have produced over 2.5 goals. Villa have no win in the last four home matches in the league and in three of them they’ve conceded two or more goals. In the last 10 away matches, they have two wins, both against London sides – Arsenal and Fulham.

Chelsea on the other hand, have had a resurgent run lately though their loss in the FA Cup semi finals will be remembered more. They have to win this to be sure of their top four slot and it will be tough, with manager Thomas Tuchel looking to rest players ahead of the Champions League final against Manchester City. They are coming from a 2-1 win over Leicester City and that should really give them the push to finish this off. There’s a growing injury concern at Chelsea which would affect this game, with Ngolo Kante, Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz under observation while Matteo Kovacic featured in the last game but still treaded gingerly. The Blues have lost their defensive mettle and go to this game having failed to keep a clean sheet in the last four games across all competitions. They lost back to back before their win over Leicester but four wins in the last five league matches should give them the needed impetus to finish the season on a high.
