About two weeks after facing off, Aston Villa and Burnley are set to go head to head again, this time Villa playing host in their 37th round matches in the Premier league. Villa go into this game in 13th place with 44 points while Burnley are 18th with 34 points. For Villa, survival is guaranteed, but six points in their remaining two matches could see them rise to the top half. The last time Villa won, it was a 3-1 victory over Burnley; they’ve gone winless in the last two matches, losing to Liverpool then drawing with Crystal Palace. Villa have however scored in each of their last four matches and can only target an improvement in defence, having managed just two clean sheets in five matches. The hosts haven’t done well at home in recent times and going into this game with one win in five could have psychological implications.

Burnley are coming into this game with two straight losses and the situation is getting tighter for them in the relegation fight. The loss to Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend saw them drop back into the relegation zone after Leeds United drew with Brighton. This is their game in hand and basically their fate is still in their control. A win here will see them rise to 16th in the standings though even a draw will be enough to see them rise from the red zone, given their goal difference. In their recent meeting with Villa, Burnley were outplayed and their only goal in the 3-1 loss came in stoppage time. They go into this game without a clean sheet in three matches, but that’s not the real concern, Burnley have one win and three losses away from home, while they’ve failed to score in those three losses, and have no clean sheet in the last five away matches.
